Project

The Arkeosardinia project is an institutional portal for tourist trade and cultural promotion. We have created  interactive 3D web applications for three different archaeological sites.

Info

The 3D application has been designed for free web navigation and exploration of archaeological sites. Special care has been devoted to the creation of the ambient effects: sound, reflections of the light, camera effects. According to the needs, also the location, the daytime, the weather conditions and the different seasons can be programmed with absolute realism.

Through a dedicated menu, informative layers on the remarkable points of the archaeological site can be activated. Multilingual outputs of such layers can be obtained by the application. Compass can also be activated from such menu, and GPS coordinates and elevation above sea level of the site can be obtained.

Project Steps
  • Conversion of the photogrammetric survey into a triangulated mesh
  • Mesh optimization
  • 3D model creation
  • Assignment of the materials to the 3D model (texturing)

Arkeosardinia is an initiative aiming at the cultural promotion of the regional territory. It originates by will of the four Chambers of Commerce of Sardinia, thanks to the “Tourism Desks” action undertaken by the Italian Union of Chambers of Commerce for improving the tourism quality in Italy, in view of its great historical and artistic heritage. A qualified partner in the project is the Archaelogy Office of Sardinia; the Memorandum of Understanding has been signed in February 2015.

The aims are:
  • To improve the cultural offer related to the archaeological heritage of Sardinia
  • To carry out a plan of tour itineraries
  • To support the enterprises operating in the field in order to activate an integrated promotion programme
  • To support the enterprises operating in the field in the improvement of their commercial offer
  • To combine the cultural offer with the catering and hotel services
  • To promote the archaeological landscape as heritage of the Island
