Project

3D Interactive navigation - Porto Flavia

The project is the reconstruction of the mining tunnel system of "Porto Flavia" (Sardinia, Italy). This 1924 built facility consists of haulage tunnels and underground silos, used to store lead and zinc ore, which was loaded directly into ships just off the cliff face. The site is located near Masua mine, which belongs to the municipality of Iglesias (Sardinia, Italy).

To build the simulation was necessary to perform a laser scan survey of the entire internal structure, and then to overlap it on the topographic map to tie in with the external morphology.
Further details follow in the description.

Project steps:

- Photographic Survey.
- Optimization of the points’ cloud obtained by the laser scanner.
- Transform points’ cloud in triangulated mesh.
- Optimization of the rocky parts of the mesh.
- Creation of 3D model.
- Assignment of materials to the model (texturing).
- 3D terrain modelling, based on mapping in scale 1:10.000.
- Insertion of the model within the 3D graphics engine.
- Inclusion of the interaction sounds and sound effects.
- Programming of interaction and navigation in the model.
- Design and construction of lighting and photorealistic effects.
- Programming the interactive multiplatform 3D engine.
- Publishing the simulation on the Web.
